The design concept integrates the natural beauty of Belitung’s landscape with architectural elements that honor traditional building styles while introducing a contemporary twist.
Design Concept
Interpretation of Belitung’s Landscape: The design draws inspiration from Belitung’s unique natural landscapes, aiming to blend seamlessly with the surrounding environment. The building’s form and layout mimic the undulating topography of the island, creating a harmonious connection between the built and natural environments. The landscape is reflected in the building’s contours and green spaces, enhancing the visitor experience and reinforcing the center’s role as a gateway to exploring Belitung.
Traditional Stage House Influence: Embracing the cultural heritage of Bangka Belitung, the design incorporates elements reminiscent of traditional stage houses. These structures, characterized by their wooden frameworks and elevated platforms, influence the building’s design, giving it a distinct local character. The use of wood in the structure pays homage to traditional craftsmanship, creating a sense of place and continuity with the island’s architectural history.
Contemporary Materials and Design: To contrast and complement the traditional wooden elements, the design features modern materials such as concrete walls. This juxtaposition of traditional and contemporary materials provides a dynamic aesthetic, symbolizing the fusion of heritage and innovation. The concrete elements offer durability and a modern touch, while the wood adds warmth and cultural resonance.
24-Hour Accessibility: Recognizing the needs of both tourists and locals, the center is designed to be a 24-hour hub. This round-the-clock accessibility ensures that the building serves as a constant point of connection and information for visitors and residents alike. The inclusion of diverse facilities—such as the coffee shop for social interaction, the museum for cultural education, and the amphitheater for entertainment—supports the center’s role as a vibrant community space.
